Optimizing your site takes time and a number of skills. So, when you spend all of that time learning SEO basics and optimizing your site, but you still aren’t seeing the results you want, it can be frustrating. Chances are there is a good reason you still aren’t ranking. Here’s what to look for if you have been optimizing your site but still aren’t ranking where you want to.
Learning SEO Basics Can Help Explain Why You Aren’t Ranking Yet
Your Site Isn’t Indexed Yet
It takes time for your site to become indexed in Google. New sites can take months to begin ranking, and even a few weeks to become indexed. If your site isn’t ranking, check to see that it has been indexed by typing “site:yoursite.com” into the search bar. This will show you all of the indexed pages associated with your website. If no results appear, your site has not yet been indexed. If it’s been a month or less since you created the site, wait a week or two. If it has been longer, you may opt to index your website manually. You can do this by accessing the Google search console and submitting them here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url?pli=1.
Your only online presence is your website
The more active you are online, the more credit Google gives you for being a valid site. Search engines have many tools that they used to determine whether or not you are a legitimate business. One factor that is very important is having content outside of your actual site. If you have optimize your website, but do not have another online presence, it may be time to start a social media account, contribute a guest blog post, and start submitting to public listings.
Content is key
When it comes to ranking, you can’t just fill up your pages with meaningless content and expect to be at the top. Search engine seek the most valuable content that is relevant to the query when populating results. This means that each page on your website needs to be meaningful and relevant content to the words you are trying to rank for.
Your robot.txt file is blocking Google
Sometimes, when you start a new website or switch your domain, can get an automatic block for Google and you are robots dot txt file. Open this file and if you see something that indicate blocking with the word disallow, delete the code and you should see the issue resolved within a few weeks.
Search engine optimization takes time and patience to become effective. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. With time and effort, after learning SEO basics and applying them, your site will begin ranking.
